Category: Inclusive Business Assessment & Development
Goal: To obtain the necessary information of legislation, public policies, the performance of recyclers and the market situation of recyclable materials in each of the 12 cities under study. R4S carried out the analysis of the cities of Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) and Montevideo (Uruguay).
Motivation: The IDB's Regional Initiative for Inclusive Recycling (IRR) published in 2013 the results of an initial study and a comparative analysis that evaluated the informal recycling sector in 15 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The current research aims to understand, measure and evaluate the institutional and operational environment of informal recycling in Latin America and the Caribbean from 12 pilot cities, which will be reviewed periodically to evaluate their evolution.
Expected Impact: The information collected and analyzed from the 12 cities will provide an overview of the situation of informal recyclers in Latin America and the Caribbean. At the same time, a set of indicators will be defined to follow up over time the performance of recyclers in Latin America and the Caribbean..
