SOCIAL INCLUSION PLANS FOR THE RECYCLERS OF THE QUIBDÓ AND BUENAVENTURA VILLAGES (COLOMBIA)
Category: Inclusive Business Assessment & Development
Goal: To carry out the first of three phases, corresponding to the diagnosis for creating an articulated scheme for the provision of the public waste collection services. The diagnosis aims to define social inclusion plans, productive relocation and promotion of the formalization of the recyclers’ population of the final disposal sites of the district of Buenaventura in the Departamento del Valle del Cauca and the Municipality of Quibdó, Departamento del Chocó.
Motivation: The Pacific Coast area of Colombia requires a social and economic transformation that allows it to improve the living conditions of the population and competitively develop its potential for sustainable productive activities. In the framework of the environmental and social analysis carried out, 55 recyclers have been identified working currently at the Quibdó dumpsite and 103 at the Buenaventura final disposal site, which are the main focus of this project.
Impact / Expected Impact: In this first phase, an institutional analysis will be obtained indicating those social support programs and actions already in place that can be used by recyclers. A socioeconomic analysis will be carried out to better understand the dynamics of the population of recyclers and the market for recycled materials in each of the two target cities.
