Category: Inclusive Business Assessment & Development
Goal: Undertake a relevant study on Internationalization Strategies in low-income markets to create a set of tools that could be implemented by ICEX in order to support and facilitate the internationalization of Spanish companies in low-income markets.
Motivation: Since early 2000, the multinationals began to become aware of the consumption capacity of 4,000 million consumers with lower incomes. Currently, SMEs and start-up companies are adapting their products and opening new distribution channels to enter into this market segment valued at $ 5 billion. Aware of these opportunities, international organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Development Program, among others, have initiated programs to encourage business development in the Base of the Pyramid as a way to drive business growth and social development. Recognizing the important opportunities that have Spanish companies if they enter into these markets with new business models, this report aims to help create a set of recommendations and tools for the ICEX in order to support the internationalization of Spanish companies in low-income markets Base of the Pyramid.
Impact: Developing promotion and internationalization tools that enable the creation or acceleration of new business initiatives in low-income markets in order to provide answers to social and environmental challenges through viable and sustainable business solutions.
